In the tense and often heated debate on demonetisation in the Rajya Sabha today, a Samajwadi Party member Naresh Agrawal managed to make Prime Minister Narendra Modi and finance minister Arun Jaitley laugh – uproariously.
SP leader Naresh Agrawal joked about the level of secrecy maintained before the policy was rolled out.
“There are those who say the Prime Minister did not take even Arun Jaitley into his confidence. If Arun ji had known, he would have hinted it to me, since he knows me,” Agrawal ribbed. Both PM Modi and finance minister looked taken aback, for a moment, then burst out laughing.
Agrawal, who’s from Hardoi in SP-ruled Uttar Pradesh, garnered another round of chuckles when he assured PM Modi of his safety in the state, no doubt when he makes his way there to campaign in the upcoming state elections.
Agrawal was, of course, referring to an emotional, slightly melodramatic comment PM Modi made recently about his murder by opposition. The PM had said that forces opposed to his crackdown on corruption “may not let me live”.
