Two militants were reportedly killed in an encounter on Monday morning in Baramulla’s Sopore area.
“Acting on specific intelligence inputs about the presence of militants in Shanker Gund Brath area of Sopore, security forces launched a cordon and search operation (CASO) there”, said a police official.
“The operation is on. The identity and affiliation of the slain militants are being ascertained,”- he further added.
Meanwhile, as “a precautionary measure”, all the schools in the Baramulla and Kupwara districts of north Kashmir were closed.
More details are awaited and the firings haven’t ceased when the report was being published. Two more militants were believed to be trapped.
On Sunday, the Pakistan Army resorted to unprovoked firing of small and heavy arms in Amrodin, Chatkadi, and Sadipora in Karnah of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district. In a similar incident, a terrorist was killed in an encounter with the security forces in Kulgam district’s Behibagh area.
A cop from Jammu and Kashmir Police was martyred and three were injured during the attack which took place a day before the Bakr-Id festival.
