Jayalalitha had a deep impact on politics in Tamil Nadu, She was not just an ordinary Politician or Chief Minister, She was a feeling. Her demise created a big void in the politics of Tamil Nadu, especially her constituency, RK Nagar. The voting for the high profile constituency saw a record turnout. Result in the end were quite similar to what exit poll by news had predicted. TTV Dinakaran emerged victorious in the end.
Nephew of the Former AIADMK chief Sasikala Natrajan, Dinakaran contested the RK Nagar Constituency as an Independent Candidate and went on to win the elections with a massive lead. He has been the member of Lok Sabha from Periyakulam from 1999-2004 but ended up as runner-up on the same seat in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections.
The defeat must have come as an alert for the CM E Palaniswami and Deputy CM O Paneerselvam as the AIADMK candidate E Madhusudhanan lost in the prestigious Constituency by a healthy margin of over 40,000 votes.
The Final results were
|· Party||Candidate Name||Number of votes|
|· Independent||TTV Dinakaran||· 89,013|
|· AIADMK||E Madhusudhanan||· 48,306|
|· DMK||N Maruthu Ganesh||· 24,651|
TTV Dinakaran after winning claimed himself to be the ‘real’ AIADMK
Dinakaran also said that “It’s a victory for all. This government will not be here for two more months. Two leaves symbol was a victory symbol when it was with Amma. Now it’s with villains. How can they win?” he asked, and added, “Whatever I had said has happened. Wait for a couple of months.”
The win for TTV Dinakaran is going to have a lot of significance for Dinakaran-Sasikala tie and probably is a big blow to the now ruling E Palaniswamy Government.
