Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi’s convoy was attacked on Tuesday near Chaksikandar in Vaishali district of Bihar. Minutes before Modi’s motorcade, RJD leader and former deputy chief minister Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, who represents Raghopur assembly constituency in Vaishali district, crossed the same stretch.
While Modi escaped unhurt, four vehicles in his convoy were reportedly damaged. He was on his way to attend the funeral of former Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Achutanand Singh’s mother.
Modi alleged that RJD supporters had attacked the convoy as the area is known to be the party’s stronghold. According to Modi, as his car reached near the place, a mob of some 300-400 persons shouting slogans in favour of Lalu Prasad began thumping his car which partially damaged his car. Somehow, he was taken to a safe place in police security. He alleged the mob was also hurling abuses at him and accused the hands of the RJD people in the incident.
However, RJD Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav dismissed speculations that any of his party men were behind the attack. He said the allegation was an attempt to defame his party.
He also said that the attack was “stage-managed” to create sympathy for himself in the light Rs 900 crore Bhagalpur fund transfer scam in which Modi, he alleged, is directly involved. “Such drama will not save him. He will have to go to jail ultimately,” Prasad said adding the RJD people had nothing to do with the incident.
Tejashwi, who claimed he got to know about the attack from the media, said the RJD could “never indulge in such an act as it believes in Gandhian principles”
The Bihar police today arrested six people for attacking Modi’s car. The police may also prosecute 150 more people for their alleged involvement in the attack.
