Earlier in the afternoon Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu offered his resignation from the post after 2 trains derailed in under four days in Uttar Pradesh. In his tweets to the Prime Minister, he took complete responsibility for the accidents and was extremely pained by the events.
Number of injuries following the derailment of Kaifiyat Express earlier this morning has risen up to 70.
Principal secretary Arvind Kumar said 74 people were injured out of which four received serious injuries and were rushed to Saifai and Etawah hospitals.
The rescue operations are over and passengers have been moved to Achalda railway station and a rescue train has been sent to take them to Delhi.
Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu tweeted later in the day, “A dumper hit the locomotive of the Kaifiyat, resulting in the derailment. Some passengers have received injuries and have been shifted to nearby hospitals.”
He is known to be personally monitoring the situation and has directed a senior official from Lucknow to rush to the site.
Additional forces and ambulance were rushed to the spot from districts of Etawah, Kannauj, and Auraiya while NDRF team has been dispatched from Lucknow to aid the victims.
