All the suspense related to Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister came to a final end today as BJP announced the name of Jai Ram Thakur as the next Chief Minister of the state. Jai Ram Thakur was born in Mandi and has been the Member of Legislative Assembly since 1998.
Thakur has also served as the Cabinet minister in the BJP government in the state. He has served as the minister of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj from 2007-2012 and a brief period of time between 2007-2009 he served as the party president in the state. Thakur is the first Chief Minister from the state’s Mandi district. He won the election from Seraj constituency in the state.
Jai Ram Thakur is a popular name among the locals. Also, his track record as an MLA has been impressive making his case stronger. It is also believed that he is close to Senior BJP Leader and Union Health Minister JP Nadda.
Jai Ram Thakur called a press conference after being given the supreme power in the state; He then thanked his party leaders and also insisted that he will not leave any stone unturned to meet the expectation of peoples of Himachal Pradesh.
The Himachal CM said “We were waiting for a BJP government in Himachal Pradesh. Now the state is ‘Congress-mukt’,”
Thakur added that “The swearing-in ceremony will take place on December 27. PM Modi will be in attendance,”
JP Nadda was also one of the front-runners for the post of Chief Minister. The search for the Chief Minister candidate began when BJP’s CM face Prem Kumar Dhumal lost in the election.
The Important question which this decision raise “Is it the end of the road for experienced leaders like Dhumal and are the parties looking for dynamic and new faces?”
