Senior Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Indrajit Saroj resigned on Wednesday. However, he claimed that he has been stripped off of all posts by Mayawati over his refusal to raise funds for the party for the upcoming local body polls in Uttar Pradesh.
Saroj belongs to the Pasi sub-caste of Dalit, he said that Mayawati demanded Rs 9 lakh to Rs 22 lakh from every assembly constituency, which he didn’t agree to.
Arvind Gautam, BSP’s zonal coordinator said that Saroj left the party himself and that he was not ousted from the party. The party issued a statement claiming that Indrajit, who is one of Mayawati’s closest confidantes was making allegations to ruin BSP’s image as he had struck a deal with some other political party.
Contradictory to this, Indrajit has to say, “I told her that I would not contest the election but would continue to work as a party functionary. To this, Behenji got angry and told me that I don’t need to work for the party as well…I had no other option but to leave the party.”
He said that Mayawati’s demands were unreasonable and therefore he made up his mind that he will no longer be involved in fund gathering and devote himself to strengthening the organization. His decision was conveyed to Mayawati via other members.
“She called me yesterday to inform that I was no longer needed in the party and that she was divesting me of all the posts that I was holding”, Saroj said on Wednesday.
It seems like a hard time for BSP as just recently Swami Prasad Maurya, one of its heavyweights, had joined BJP government as a minister.
“It seems Mayawati has made up her mind to finish off her own party”, Saroj lamented.
