When rebellious Congress MLAs openly declared that they had voted against Ahmed Patel on the eve of Rajya Sabha polls they never thought that they will have to meet such a fate. They have been expelled from party and hence their MLA seat is also in danger. All the expelled MLAs are said to be close to Mr. Vaghela who himself quit from the party before extending support to the BJP candidate.
Cracking down on the rebels, Congress expelled 8 of its MLAs for six years form the party. The expelled MLAs are said to have cross voted in yesterday’s Rajya Sabha election.
Ashok Gehlot, who is the AICC general secretary in charge of Gujarat said that along with the expulsion of rebel MLAs he has also recommended the expulsion of those six MLAs who had resigned earlier, although 3 of them had later joined BJP.
Gehlot said that those MLAs were involved in anti-party activities also asserted that such indiscipline will not be tolerated in the party.
Gehlot also claimed that the party will come back stronger in the Assembly elections which are scheduled to take place next year.
Earlier after his victory, Ahmed Patel said that he extends his warm greetings and saluted the rank and files of the Congress party. Joining him Gehlot also thanked the Gujarat unit of the party for the victory.
