Kamal Hassan is a stalwart of Indian cinema, renowned for his ground breaking cinema pushing the boundaries of Indian cinematic experience. So it was no surprise that he felt right at home with the Hollywood genius director Mr. Christopher Nolan, whose cinema has been the pinnacle of finesse for the better part of 21st Century.
South superstar Kamal Haasan met renowned filmmaker Christopher Nolan and the actor was surprised to know that the director had seen his 2015 film “Papanasam”.
Mr Nolan, known for modern classics such as “Memento”, “The Prestige”, “Inception” and the Dark Knight series, is in India on a three day trip along with visual artiste Tacita Dean.
“Met Mr Christopher Nolan. Apologized for seeing ‘Dunkirk’ in the digital format and in return I am sending ‘Hey Ram’ in digital format for him to see. Was surprised to know he had seen ‘Papanaasam’,”Mr Haasan tweeted alongside a picture of him with Nolan.
Filmmaker-archivist Shivendra Singh Dungarpur, who is hosting Mr Nolan for all the three days, hopes the director’s trip to India will draw attention to the cause of film preservation and restoration.
A public lecture on ‘Process and the Non-Deliberate Act’ by Ms Dean took place on Friday.
It was followed by a discussion on ‘Reframing The Future Of Film’ on April 1 in Mumbai with Mr Nolan, Ms Dean and Mr Dungarpur.
A roundtable discussion with prominent personalities of the Indian film industry to be attended by Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Kamal Haasan, Shyam Benegal and others also took place.
Mr Nolan will be present for the screenings of two of his recent films — Oscar-nominated “Dunkirk” and “Interstellar”.
