Every time Google will hire someone from India, paying a hefty amount of Rs.1.44 crore/year at an age as early as 16, rest assured to hear enough hue and cry. The same followed when the reports of Harshit Sharma getting selected as a Graphic designer in Google started making the rounds. The Department of Public Relations, Chandigarh Administration sent out a press release claiming the same and the news soon spread like wildfire through the social media.
Within 24 hours, Harshit Sharma turned into a local name, a name that people started looking forward to for inspiration. But, there was something fishy about the story everyone failed to even notice. Before making the announcement, his school principal not even bothered to see the proof of employment from the boy.
However, a Google representative made it clear that “the company didn’t have any information on our records with respect to Harshit Sharma’s candidacy”. The Government soon realized that everything is not right and soon distanced itself from the entire matter. Within another 24 hours, there came another turn in the life of the 16-year-old, this time a cruel one. As it turned out, the entire news came out to be a hoax, the hoax that completely changed and devastated his life.
On speaking to his mother, Bharti Sharma, she said – “Harshit got a phone call. We didn’t believe it at first. I keep telling it could be a hoax. He shared the information with his principal, who further released a press note, which led to media coverage”. She further added – “Once the news got published and the media persons started contacting them, they thought it to be genuine.”
As soon as the statement of the Google representative got released, Harshit hasn’t eaten anything and is hospitalized. Her mother said- “Doctors said he is traumatized. Those who were congratulating us are taunting us now.”
Any further developments in the matter remain to be seen. As of now, this will go down as the story of the Boy Who Never Made It to Google.
