‘BJP should use Bete Bachao instead of Beti Bachao’: Rahul Gandhi in his Gujarat visit

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi is holding public meetings in Vadodara Continuing his Navsarjan Yatra in poll-bound Gujarat.

Starting with his second phase of Navsarjan Yatra on Monday, Gandhi traveled through Ahmedabad, Kheda Anand and ended his first day in Vadodara. He began the second day of the yatra from Vadodara and will head to the tribal district of central Gujarat, Chhota Udaipur.

Congress launched The Navsarjan Yatra to understand local issues as well as boost the morale of party workers. On day one of the second phase of the yatra, Gandhi addressed rallies and interacted with people through the day. He also met Amul plant workers in Kheda and representatives of Mahila Milk Cooperatives in Anand. He paid a visit to Sardar Patel’s birthplace, Nadiad, as well.

Rahul Gandhi today took a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the alleged business dealings of BJP chief Amit Shah’s son Jay, asking him if he was a “partner” in the “theft”.

He also criticised Union ministers and BJP leaders who defended Jay Shah, and suggested them to change the name of the government’s flagship scheme for the girl child — “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao“— to “Amit Shah ke bete ko Bachao”.

Further attacking PM Modi, he said – “PM Modi promised development for all. He had promised funds for the development of tribals, but nothing came out of his promises. Development in Gujarat has helped only the big industrialists. Did you get the water from the Narmada, Gandhi asked villagers. The electricity, water in the state is only for the rich.”

Jiku Tadvi who is leading the protest of tribal families explained their demands to Gandhi.

Talking to the displaced families, Gandhi said, “You lost your land for the development of Gujarat, you should be protected, compensated. What you didn’t get in 22 years, Congress will give you in six months if we form the government in Gujarat.”
