BJP has now become the single largest party in the Rajya Sabha overtaking Congress. The tally now stands as BJP 58 against 57 of the main opposition.
BJP MP Sampatiya Uikey, who was elected to the Upper House following a bypoll in Madhya Pradesh took oath today.
His election was necessitated by the death of Union Minster, Anil Madhav Dave.
This is the first time that the saffron party has become the number one formation in the RS after the Narendra Modi government came to power in May 2014.
The BJP-led NDA, however, is still short of a decisive majority in the House but the joining of JD(U) to the ruling block has further boosted its numbers.
How will this effect BJP in RS?
BJP can now form alliance, which is considered its main quality, and can get any bill passed in the upper house. Which means BJP would not be facing any trouble in getting a bill passed in either Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha. The only thing it has to worry about is the Presidential nod which everyone knows would not be difficult for Mr. Modi.
