After the Verdict on 2G scam acquitting alleged A Raja and Kanimozhi on 21 December, Good news came for Ashok Chavan who was alleged of Adarsh Housing Society scam. This decision by High court came as the second decision in the two days to bring disappointment to the CBI who failed to prove the 2G scam in the special court held on Thursday.
Ashok Chavan who looked relieved after the decision said that “Have full faith in the judiciary, Truth has prevailed,”
“The (Adarsh) issue was politically used by other parties.” said the former Maharashtra Chief Minister
The benches of judges were told by CBI that they had come up with fresh pieces of evidence against Ashok Chavan. The judges of High Court ruled out the claim saying that it “failed to present any fresh evidence”.
The Judges said that the pieces of evidence provided by CBI could not be considered as the fresh evidence “The sanctioning authority is an independent body that can’t allow itself to be influenced by anyone’s opinion,” the court said.
Ashok Chavan has served as the Chief Minister of the state between December 2008 and November 2010. He has also served as the Minister for Cultural Affairs, Industries, Mines and Protocol in the Vilasrao Deshmukh Government.
Ashok Chavan and 14 others have been accused of the scam related to the high profile society
The court was hearing the petition filed by Chavan against the decision of Governer Ch Vidyasagar Rao, who granted sanction to CBI to prosecute the former CM in Adarsh Housing Society Scam.
As the revenue minister, He is accused of allotting 40% of flats to civilians even though they were meant only for defence personnel
As the Chief Minister, he was accused of approving additional floor space index and accepting two flat as a return for his relatives in the posh Adarsh Society
