BJP chief Amit Shah held a meeting with his party leaders in Gujarat on Sunday. The meeting is important from the view that it was conducted just before the Rajya Sabha polls. Chief Minister Vijay Rupani was also present at the meeting which took place at Shah’s residence.
According to the state party unit, Shah, who arrived here late last night, would stay here till the completion of the Rajya Sabha polls, in which, he is one of the four contestants from the state.
While the BJP has said that Amit Shah is in Gujarat to celebrate Rakshabandhan and eschewed from terming it an official visit. However, party sources said the party chief discussed various issues regarding the polls with the leaders in today’s meeting.
It is expected that similar rounds of meetings would continue tomorrow.
For the three Rajya seats falling vacant in Gujarat, the BJP has fielded Shah, Union minister and sitting Rajya Sabha MP Smriti Irani and former Congress MLA Balwantsinh Rajput, who had ditched his party and joined BJP a week ago.
Of the total 11 RS members from Gujarat, the term of three – Smriti Irani and Dilipbhai Pandya (both BJP), and Congress’ Ahmed Patel is ending on August 18.
The elections are a do-or-die situation for Congress as it has lost both of the much- hyped elections, the President elections and the Vice President elections. Congress has also been ditched by its 6 MLAs including Mr. Vaghela.
Let’s see how both the parties fare in the RS elections.
