PM Narendra Modi and Gautam Kumar Adani

The proverb “A friend in need is a friend indeed” is absolutely true. A real friend is always there to support its friend whatsoever the situation may be. Perhaps friendship is one of the most important relationship in someone’s life. Narendra Modi has always been truly on the top when it has come to managing the relationships. Similarly he is never reluctant when it comes to managing his friendships.

His friendly relationship with Business tycoons like Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani has been something which has always been targeted by the opposition.  Modi is accused of helping these two at quite a few times and especially Gautam Kr. Adani (founder of Adani group). These two have been friends since a long time now. Every now and then opposition leaders have came up with new sets of proclamation against the two but the latest one of them is perhaps the biggest of all till date.

It is believed that the department of commerce amended the SEZ (Special Economic Zones) rules to insert a provision on claims for refund under the Special Economic Zones Act, 2005. This change is believed to have helped Adani group save almost Rs. 500 Crore. Expectedly, The Company denied that it had done something illegal and the government remained silent on the matter. According to reports this amendment was specifically done to favor one of the companies of Adani firm. APL (Adani Power Limited) claimed that it paid all the taxes and duties on imported raw materials. However, documents leaked to EPW (economic and political weekly) revealed that APL did not pay the duties and the amount to be paid rose to 1000 Crore by March 2015. What that essentially means is that APL got the refund for the amount that it had never paid.

This is not the first time when allegations have been put on Adani Group, before this there have been allegations related to cancellation of penalties and protection from CBI. In the end truth should always prevail above anything else and there is nothing at a hierarchy higher than the constitution.
