Early this morning, a fierce counter took place in Kashmir’s Bandipora. Two Indian Air Force commandos training with the army were martyred and two terrorists have been shot dead in the encounter.
Security forces surrounded a house in a village after specific inputs about the presence of terrorists. The terrorists fired from the house, after which the forces retaliated.
The Air Force Garud commandos were with the army for operational experience and training.
After the encounter, Jammu and Kashmir governor NN Vohra has decided to meet home minister Rajnath Singh in Delhi.
“Terrorists opened fire on a joint party of 13 RR of army and SOG of Jammu and Kashmir police laying siege to Rakh (Paribal) area of Hajin Wednesday morning following inputs about the presence of about eight terrorists in the area,” a defense spokesperson was quoted saying.
“As the forces were closing in, the hiding terrorists fired upon them around 5 am, resulting in injuries to jawans. Two Garud personnel were martyred in the action. Two army jawans were also injured in the encounter and shifted to 92 base hospital for further treatment”- said the Director-General of Press Information Bureau, KS Dhatwalia.
Following the encounter, the mobile internet service was suspended to maintain law and order.
SP Vaid, the DGP of Jammu and Kashmir Police said – “One terrorist identified as a local, other a Pak national namely Ali. He was instrumental in terror incidents in Hajin area.”
This encounter took place two days after a joint team of security forces on Monday killed top Jaish-e-Mohammed militant commander Umer Khalid in Ladoora area of North Kashmir.
